Are you looking for a delightful project to brighten up your car and make it smell amazing? Well, look no further. Today I'm going to show you how to needle felt a small mushroom charm that doubles up as a super cute car air freshener! It's a fantastic way to add a touch of whimsy to your vehicle while enjoying the fresh scent of your favorite essential oils. So, gather your supplies and let's get crafting!
Materials You'll Need:
Wool roving in various colors (white, red, and green)
Felting needle(s)
Foam pad or felting mat
Essential oils (optional)
Jump ring
String or ribbon
Scissors

Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace
Find a clean, flat surface to work on and lay down your foam pad or felting mat. This will provide a soft surface to felt on and protect your tabletop from accidental needle pricks.
Step 2: Create the Mushroom Cap
Take a small amount of red wool roving and roll it into a ball between your palms. This will form the base of your mushroom cap. Once you have a nice round shape, place it on the foam pad.
Next, use your felting needle to repeatedly poke the wool ball all over. This process compresses the fibers and starts to shape the wool into a solid form. Continue felting until you achieve the desired size and shape for your mushroom cap. Remember to rotate the ball regularly to maintain an even shape.
Step 3: Add Gills and Detail to the Mushroom Cap
Now, take some white wool roving and pull off a small ball to place under your mushroom cap to represent the gills.
You can also take tiny tufts to create spots or other details on the mushroom cap. Place these tufts randomly on the red felted ball and use your felting needle to secure them in place. Gently poke each tuft until it blends seamlessly into the red wool.
Repeat this process until you're happy with the distribution of spots on your mushroom cap. Feel free to get creative with the pattern and arrangement!
Step 4: Form the Mushroom Stem
To make the stem of your mushroom, take a small amount of white wool roving and roll it into a cylinder shape. Use your felting needle to felt the wool, shaping it into a smooth stem. You can make the stem as long or short as you like, depending on your preference.
Step 5: Attach the Mushroom Cap to the Stem
Once you're satisfied with the shape of your mushroom stem, carefully attach the mushroom cap to the top of the stem. Use your felting needle to felt the two pieces together securely. Make sure to felt all around the base of the cap to ensure it's firmly attached to the stem.
Step 6: Add a Jump Ring
Take a jump ring and open it with your fingers. Press it into the mushroom cap and then use your fingers to squeeze it closed to create an attachment point.

Step 7: Add Scent (Optional)
To turn your mushroom charm into a car air freshener, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the mushroom cap. Lavender, peppermint, or citrus oils work wonderfully for this purpose. Allow the oil to absorb into the wool, and your car will soon be filled with a delightful aroma!
Step 8: Attach a String or Ribbon
Finally, cut a length of string or ribbon and attach it to the top of your mushroom charm. This will allow you to hang it from your rearview mirror or anywhere else in your car. Tie a secure knot and trim any excess string.
Voila! Your adorable needle felted mushroom charm car air freshener is ready to go! Hang it up in your vehicle and enjoy the whimsical touch it adds to your surroundings, along with the pleasant scent of essential oils.

I hope you enjoyed this fun and easy DIY project! It's perfect for crafters of all ages and makes a fantastic gift for friends and family. So, gather your supplies and get felting! Happy crafting, everyone!
